At PrimeSTEM, we’re dedicated to bringing high-quality, hands-on learning directly to students who need it most. Building on our successful May 2026 DesignSTEM program—which reached over 625 4th and 5th graders—we recently carried that passion to the Freedom School. On July 13th and 16th, we had the pleasure to teach an interactive STEM workshop to 30 3rd through 8th graders, diving deep into topics such as microelectronics, coding, and electricity.
On July 13th, we taught the students about electricity and circuits, their applications to microelectronics, and the overall importance of these concepts in the real world. Then, the students used LEDs, pipe cleaners, batteries, and popsicle sticks to make various types of closed and parallel circuits. The students were very creative, making things ranging from spiders with LED eyes to light up swords.


On July 16th, we taught the students about block coding, and its applications to the microelectronics concepts we discussed on July 13th. Using Micro:bits, we explained simple programming topics and were also able to build onto the concept of electricity. Then, the students completed a coding challenge involving creating digital name badges, random number generators, displaying icons, and writing messages using the Micro:bits.
Because Freedom School gave us a close-knit environment spanning elementary through middle school, we got to watch kids across multiple grade levels tackle these concepts together for the very first time. There was an incredible buzz in the room as students applied the knowledge they learned and their creativity to tackle the coding and circuit challenges.

We are very proud of the growth and creativity demonstrated by the 30 students at Freedom School!
